Nothing is worse than getting ready in the morning and struggling to put on your favorite piece of jewelry.  If you’ve ever seen the infamous episode of Sex and The City when Samantha Jones struggles to put on her diamond bracelet and it falls to pieces, then you will appreciate the convenience of a magnetic jewelry clasp.  Having the ease of connecting two ends together definitely beats the misery of feeling alone in the world!

Basically, a magnetic jewelry clasp includes two parts that are held together by magnetic attraction and released from each other by pulling them apart to break the magnetic attraction. The best part is that these clasps are strong and secure and you do not have to worry about your necklace or bracelet just falling off. The Beadelle Pave´ magnetic clasps in particular come in an array of crystal colors, sizes, shapes, and plating to ensure you find the perfect one every time!

Magnetic Jewelry clasps are a tremendous innovation to regular “claw” clasps.  Anyone who has used a regular claw-type clasp has experienced the annoying pain that comes along with it.  Your thumb can start hurting, your arms can get tired, your hair can get stuck in it, etc! Without a mirror, it is virtually impossible to put on a short necklace with a traditional clasp. When it comes to putting on a bracelet, forget it! It is nearly impossible to do by yourself.  A lot of times, fussing with a regular claw clasp leads to damaging it or actually breaking it.

However with magnetic clasps in the picture, you can even turn your old annoying claw clasp into a magnetic clasp! The Beadelle Pave´ magnetic clasps even come with an extra claw to hook onto the necklaces or bracelets you already own. They are also perfect for becoming the statement piece in a simple design like the one below.

This discovery is great for people with arthritis, carpal tunnel, joint pain, limited range of motion in their arms, hands, neck, etc.  According to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, arthritis is the most common cause of disability in the United States, limiting the activities of nearly 19 million adults. It is predicted that 67 million adults aged 18 years and older will have doctor-diagnosed arthritis by the year 2030!

Latin and Ballroom Dance Costumes and Gowns

For unusual paths into the world of high-fashion ballroom dance wear, it’s going to be hard to beat Irina Birukova’s.  It’s difficult to believe that this stunningly elegant and talented designer (she designs for professionals and amateurs at all levels) started out in life as an aircraft engineer. Shortening “aircraft” into “craft”, she translated the sewing and embroidery skills she learned in school into a finalist’s award at the Burda Moden School of Design competition in Moscow.

International moves took her to Seattle, Washington, to the International Academy of Design and Technology (IADT). She discovered that the skills that she had developed in Russia, including designing and crafting exquisitely tailored women’s business suits, found her teaching her teachers.  The staff was impressed with her skills to the extent that she was offered an instructor’s position there, which she declined.  She then attended the Istituto Di Moda Burgo, in Milan, Italy, where she honed her already-impressive figure drawing skills and studied fashion design.

At some point in her growth as a fashion designer, a professional dancer who had been impressed with the construction and tailoring of a pants suit that Irina had designed and made for herself, approached her and asked if she did gowns for ballroom dance competitions, and would she consider making gowns for this professional?  Irina had been required to take a few waltz lessons in high school (with a partner assigned whom she disliked and soon caused her to quit) and had never seen a ballroom competition, so of course she said yes.

She thought then, and still believes, that designing high-performance aircraft and designing equally high-performance ballgowns are very related fields.  “They are both about dynamics – speed and movement.  Flying is flying, regardless of whether it’s in a plane or in a gown”.  She says that just as an aircraft has to be designed and crafted “just so” in order to make it most aerodynamically effective, so a ballgown must drape and swirl “just so” to create the most attractive illusion of flight for each particular dancer.  Those are the dynamics Irina tries to achieve in each individual design – the drape and flow most flattering and becoming to each dancer, and not just prêt-a-porter pieces.

Irina comes by her talent naturally.  She says that her great-grandmother, Alexandra Tribunskaya, was a professional fashion designer and was always elegantly dressed in perfectly-tailored gowns. Family legend says that this lady once designed for the Romanovs.

Irina now lives in Seattle with her husband, photographer and programmer Eugene, and is the darling of her adoring, and beautifully adorned, clients.  Her website, www.FashionsForPassion.com provides examples of the many different designs Irina has created for her clientele.
